I think it may go the way of it’s name, “it is unclear why Carloman was chosen to give his name to the vehicle, as he appears to have had a short and troublesome reign before dying of natural causes.......”
Of course Saudi princes and the like used to buy up these bulletproof monstrosities but now with the new ruler, their threat may be coming from a different direction. |

I call BS. Gross sales of 22M (10cars). That wouldn’t even start to cover the development costs. Not to mention patent royalty costs.
A chinese CAD artist on the hand, and a 30% deposit. I smell money.

Ugly POS. I vote for photoshop fake.
Proper princes want MB and BMW for armored luxury cars. Nobody does executive armor like BMW, and anybody looking for armor knows it. |

It has way too many angles and creases in the body lines and I'm not sure why quite frankly. Is it trying to look like a huge black gemstone?

My first reaction was that I love it.
But it’s not true. I hate it.

It would go well with our bunker in the mid-west.

I've always wondered about the 'Achilles Heel' of armoured vehicles.
Surely the wheels/tyres are the most vulnerable point? Take those out and it's just a big expensive sitting duck. Am I missing something? (that will never be built)

They make “bullet proof” tires. While you can’t drive at speed, they’re designed to allow you to remain mobile if/when the tires are damaged.

I wasn't thinking so much of tyres with a few bullets in them as tyres blown right off the rim. Maybe no rim left either. Surely these days the weapon of choice is an RPG rather than a rifle.

An RPG will penetrate several inches of high density armor plate with ease. No one is going to be aiming them at the tires. They’ll be center of mass on the target, where the people are sitting. |

I am under the impression the underside is the main issue with armored vehicles. I've been told they can be made very tough.

yessir, the IED's are tough because the under sides are so flat, I've been told.
Some of the newer armored vehicles that take into account IED attacks have v-shapes on the bottom (like a boat). and: "Mine protected V-shape hull Buffalo’s armoured v-shaped hull directs an explosion on the ground away from the vehicle. The Buffalo provides powerful ballistic and blast protection, combined with the unique technology to detect dangerous ordinance. "The first Buffalo was deployed in Afghanistan in 2003 with the US Army Corps of Engineers." The Buffalo features steel wheels and disc rollers that allow the vehicle to roll over a detonator without sustaining injuries to the crew in the vehicle. It offers protection from improvised explosive devices (IEDs) – up to a 45lb landmine explosion under any wheel or a 30lb mine explosion under the centreline. It is armoured against 7.62mm×51mm Nato ball standard and is equipped with BAE Systems L-ROD aluminium armour that protects vehicles from rocket-propelled grenade attacks. The mounted camera on the arm helps the crew to dispose of mines and IEDs from within the V-shaped armoured hull." -- http://www.army-technology.com/projects/buffalo/ |
