AD's backdoor selling to wholesalers and used Dealers

I was at a VERY reputable used dealer in my town.

He sells 8-10 rolex watches a week. Guess how he gets them???

Dealers are required to buy a certain amount of watches every year.

They backdoor the overstock to used dealers and wholesalers.

He made a call while i was standing there and could buy right then a few z and m serial subs. They offered him a M sub for $3500.00

I saw 3 m serial subs this week at various used dealers in my town.

all were "new" but have to be sold as used.

Highest priced ss sub was $3900.00

Ad markup is crazy....

40% off msrp is their cost usually. If they make 15% in wholesale they are good.

Thats one reason why the Daytona is so "rare." They go out the back door before they hit the case. Thats why you can get brand new ones all day long here in Miami.

Icon19 Wait just one minute!

It almost seems to me as I read this that Dealers sell watches for more than it costs them to purchase those exact same watches wholesale from the manufacturer.

Where? where in Florida? I don't see GM dealers making that kind of deal here on TRF or other forums?

well, for starters, join NAWCC and go to their meets, and you will find plenty of watches at wholesale, in face-to-face deals with reputable people.

Actually my buddy gave me a gift membership a couple of months ago and thought it was mostly for vintage watch trades. will look into that. Thanks.

All the AD's have been doing this for years. Rolex maintains margins and does not outlet like other makes, some makes outlet for 10-20% of retail that is why Rolex maintains excellent resale value.

Wouldn't this be very appearant to Rolex by the way the warranties are filed (or not)? I would imagine that they would be able to figure out exactly what was going on and they would frown on that!

UK is the same, a watch costs an AD 60% of RRP.
