It is a beautiful watch with a GMT function. Nice blued GMT hand, overall looking good. But as said it does not kill the Pepsi.

I'm pretty sure the OP is trying to start a brawl, or poke fun at the "but it's a Seiko..." crowd, but I'll take the bait anyhow.
I think 0.00 people are cross-shopping a hi-beat Grand Seiko, and a near-tool watch from Rolex. The Seiko appeals to a small group of folks who truly appreciate the pinnacle of old-world craftsmanship and finish complexity, married with the most precise and accurate mechanicals of modern times. The Grand Seiko is beyond reproach from a horological perspective, is produced in small numbers, and will always be a standard bearer for what's possible in watch making. It's likely meant to be appreciated for what it is inside, and perhaps only amongst "those in the know." It's an introvert of a watch. The Rolex is, on the other hand, is a total extrovert. It's an icon, a status symbol, and a workhorse. Evolutionary in it's design, both visually and mechanically, it's the proven, safe play. It's not meant to challenge current tastes, nor push the envelope of horology, but rather to provide lasting service in all conditions, fit easily into existing perception of quality and value, and look good for a long time. Both are excellent watches. Both tell time, in multiple time zones. But they are very dissimilar in almost every other way. Any collector who owns both is truly a watch lover without bias or prejudice... And a lucky sonofagun, to boot! |

What matters is that you like it. I would have just posted it in the Seiko forum, a comparison to "kill" an icon is futile, even trollish...

A Seiko. Only a Seiko. Still a Seiko.

That’s a great GS GMT, but I think it’s different enough that they won’t compete with each other. Read: feel free to buy both ;)

OP, you should have put this thread in the Seiko section at the start, if you wanted more rational discussion like the comment above ![]()

How many pieces each year do Rolex make? How many mechanical pieces (inc. Spring Drives and sister brands Galante and Credor, and LE Prospex) do Seiko hand assemble at their two specialist studios? Forget the millions of movements produced annually for their own and 3rd party products - that’s a complete irrelevance. To make it easy for you, I’ve mentioned these numbers in previous posts. |

It is a very beautiful timepiece, very well made and will last many lifetimes.
I do appreciate your enthusiasm for your new watch. Wear it well. ![]()

I like it but think the Tudor GMT is the real competition for the Rolex GMT.

First of all, Rolex is not even an American brand. So the analogy does not make sense. It is true that American cars are like crapy Seiko watches!

A shame that you would deny yourself the opportunity to get past your blinkered viewpoint. Maybe a read will change your stance on what a Grand Seiko actually represents – http://www.thewatchsite.com/files/A%...0in%20Time.pdf |

Uhhhhhhhhhhh. No. I like GS a lot and respect the quality, but threads like this contribute to the ignorance GS lovers rant about. Calling any GS a "Rolex Pepsi GMT Killer" is flat out dumb.

Surely it’s just one person’s own (shared or otherwise) viewpoint. You could also say that the OP’s post was mere hyperbole, or that the GS dial/indicies/blued GMT hand/Zaratsu polishing all contribute to offer something the Rolex doesn’t. I’m not going to put words in his mouth – maybe a bit more text would’ve helped – but equally, I can look past the literal comment to see what meaning he’s trying to convey. Quote:
The thread was already veering off course once the brand cachet flag was waved. |
