AD didn't discount

Hello Rolex lovers. I just got my TT Daytona and Yacht master steel blue dial in London and paid full price for them. I'm not gonna tell where I got them because it might not be good for them. I talked about discounts and she said no immediately. Said these two were very popular and she weren't allowed to give any discount. So was it okay for me to pay at full price. But I love my watches. They are my first Rolex watches.
P/s: I got 16% VAT refund.

Given today's environment and in the UK, I guess you might have been fortunate to get both.

Thanks for quick replies, guys. I'm actually satisfied with my decision because the watches that I got were the last pieces in store. I just wanted to ask is there any chance that I can negotiate about the price so next time I would do better.

I think it's to late to worry about price now. It's what they cost. Are you happy, do you like these watches, then enjoy. Who cares what other people think you should pay.
Congrats.

Its tough to answer, as each location/country is different. But I think 5-10% on TT models are doable, even in this environment. A SS yachtmaster discount may be possible as well.
Btw, never take what an AD says at face value. It's a lie that a TT or yachtmaster are hot watches that fly off the shelves (at least that's the case in the States).

Also, I just want to add. If you don't care about building relationships with your AD (i.e, you don't plan on being at the top of waitlists for extremely hard to get models) there are deals to be had buying from trusted sellers on the grey market.

I don’t know about the sports model but WOS did offer me discount on DJ models.
Congrats on your purchase!
What colour dial did you get on the TT Daytona?

It's hard to get any discount on any sport Rolex watches these days.

Agreed. I remember on one of my trips to London back when the blue tt sub was introduced with the sunburst dial and they had it. Was even offered a discount, it was on bond street. Long gone those days are!

The bad news is that both of those are readily available in most U.K. ADs, normally sitting in windows for a while, meaning that they are actually unpopular models and could have been eligible for a small discount.

The good news, however, is that after the 16% VAT refund and the U.K. price, you’ve probably got them at a very cheap price anyway.

Wear them in good health.

As you are a tourist most UK ADs will charge you full price now.

There are those more knowledgable than me who could tell you whether or not a discount is achievable on those references in London.

However in your case it’s pretty likely that the sales assistant simply knew you were going to buy regardless. London AD’s are used to a cosmopolitan clientele and assuming that you looked obviously like a tourist they would have figured that, the UK being one of the cheapest markets in the world for watches and knowing you’d get a hefty VAT rebate, they had you on the hook already. It’d be a mediocre salesman who gave a customer like you a discount.

As someone who lives in the U.K., is their any discount available on Explorer 2 or Yachmasters from ADs? I went to a few ADs and got the same reply as the OP that they don’t discount on SS models.

Congratulations but TT Daytona and blue YM popular? They’re more desirable than the Milgauss, both Explorers and the AK but they’re not exactly watches that people go hunting for. These were usually always available at every AD I’ve visited especially the TT Daytona given its much higher $16,900 compared to its price in the GM. Everything has changed now and pretty much every Rolex is more than what it used to be on the market including Datejusts.

It’s working. People will take what they can get and still feel as if the AD did them a favor by selling them something! This really makes 5 digit models more attractive since you’re paying fair market value instead of retail for stuff that usually depreciates pretty badly. The TT Daytona in particular which is $18.4k with tax really takes or took a big hit along the lines of 35-40% usually if you paid retail for it.

This proves the absolute POWER of the ROLEX brand.

Among the general public, ROLEX is the ultimate. The best.

These people don't dissect what model and all that. It's ROLEX. It's the BEST.

The thought is that owning one (any model) will subsequently make "me" the BEST....and so these people will buy whatever when they wander into the dealer.

So Rolex can impose it's will on the market with ease.

It really is a great position to be in as a manufacturer. I give Rolex a lot of credit.

SS yes, PM absolutely not. I couldn’t imagine not getting minimum 10% on any PM piece.

But as long as OP is happy

They have the same kind of position that Hermès does with both of its legendary bags, Kelly and Birkin. This is no small feat. It’s usually hard for companies to maintain prestige when they advertise too much but Rolex has managed to do it by carefully choosing the right sports as well as the Oscars since they have been worn by countless legends in classic films without paying anything. These actors wore Rolex because they wanted to wear Rolex. Omega had to pay for James Bond to wear their watches.

No discount on TT? I’d never thought I’d see that day. But as long as you are happy that’s all that matters!!
