Up for sale is this super cool neo-vintage 1990s Bell & Ross by Sinn M1/156 military-style chronograph powered by the redoubtable Lemania 5100 engine. This uncommon co-branded example comes from the era when B&R were just starting out and took over some of Sinn’s soon-to-be obsolete models to begin their enterprise. This Sinn M1 also represents the ultimate evolution of the Bund-style aviator’s watch that Heuer-Leonides originally pioneered and there's little doubt the late Helmut Sinn’s intention was to offer this model for military supply. This awesome watch has so many functions that I like to call it the Swiss Army Knife of chronos.

This great B&R/Sinn is unpolished and retains its original matte bead blasted finish, features its original Mint black Tritium dial that has developed a lovely patina to the numerals and also comes on a rare B&R signed fliplock bracelet with matching matte blasted finish. It will also come with a lightly used genuine Sinn leather aviator strap with uncommon B&R signed steel buckle for maximum versatility. This watch is easily in overall Excellent condition.

CASE & BACK: Large 43 x 52mm all-stainless steel case with unpolished scratch resistant and non-reflective bead blasted matte gray finish. The case is in Excellent+ condition with minimal marks. Correct non-blasted stainless steel back held in place by 4 grub screws has some light marks on the outside but also shows no polish and is in Very Good+ external cosmetic condition. All correct Sinn nomenclature is present and crisp.

DIAL & HANDS: Original, highly legible matte black dial with large Arabic numerals in Mint condition. It features: a finely printed minute/seconds track; engine turned sub dials for constant seconds, elapsed hours & 24-hour indicator; original Tritium luminous Arabic numerals with wonderful patina; apertures for the date and day in English; and the cool and scarce co-branded names of the manufacturers. The all-luminous hour & minute hands are Mint with very few signs of age and the neon orange-tipped chrono sweep seconds and “jet” minute counter are bright and Near Mint, as are all the sub-register hands.

BEZEL: Wide black anodized aluminum rotating elapsed time bezel shows a pleasing touch of fade and just a little loss of black to the edges — handsome Excellent vintage condition. The bezel rotates smoothly in both directions with slight finger pressure as designed.

MOVEMENT: This great B&R/Sinn features the WIS-favorite multi-complication Lemania 5100 automatic chronograph movement. It has always operated so well for me that I never bothered to have it serviced. All its many functions are operating correctly — timekeeping, power reserve, double quickset date, 24-hour indicator — with the chronograph also working crisply and everything resetting properly to “zero.” Guaranteed to be the case at the time of shipping.

CROWN & PUSHERS: Signed Sinn screw down crown screws down tightly and pulls out to the winding, day and date quickset and hack time setting as designed. The pusher start-stop operation is very firm and the reset nice and crisp.

CRYSTAL: Large low-domed acrylic crystal has been polished but retains some minor marks and superficial scratches, Excellent condition.

BRACELET & STRAP: This great B&R by Sinn chrono comes on its original matte-finish bead blasted Oyster-style steel bracelet with uncommon signed B&R fliplock clasp. It is in overall Excellent condition with minimal stretch and only some light scuffs and rub marks and will fit up to about a 7.5” wrist at maximum extension, maybe slightly larger. I am also including a genuine Sinn black leather aviator strap with white contrast stitching in lightly used condition and with matching signed steel B&R tang buckle. This large chronograph takes 20mm straps.
