Lucky find!

Since I bought my one and only Rolex in 2016 my wife has been dropping hints about how since “forever” she’s always wanted the lady Datejust 26mm tt fluted jubilee. Upon casuallly browsing Rolex ADs in the UK and abroad she discovered that Rolex had discontinued the 26mm and replaced it with 28mm. Trying this size a few times she found it too big for her wrist. So back to the drawing board for her, it was then she discovered the Cartier Tank Francaise PM bicolour. She liked it immediately and said that’s the replacement for the Rolex, for when I get my nice watch.

In December 2017, I found a Cartier AD who was willing to negotiate and it was then that I discovered the watch wasn’t automatic but a quartz. I can’t believe my due diligence didn’t pick this up! So put the deal on hold and literally that day walked into a Rolex AD that I casually know, and asked if they by any stroke of luck they had a lady Datejust 26, tt, fluted, jubilee.

He looked at me for a second, pointed to the case and said this one? It’s my last piece (NOS). My resting heart rate jumped inside while I kept a cool to try and negotiate a deal. Half an hour later the watch was in my bag with 20% of MSRP.

She’s 30 in two weeks and I’ve had the watch kept away since December 2017. She has no idea and thinks she’s getting some handbag or shoes (or both).

Absolutely can’t wait for the unveiling! Will keep you guys posted with the new arrival! Twinned with my DJII.

Pre-congratulations to her! And hat’s off to you! In the end she’s going to be so thrilled to get what she really wanted all along. Savor the unveiling. You’re going to make turning 30 one helluva birthday!

Great story.

Can’t wait to see pics of the unveiling.

I can’t believe you are able to hold the surprise. I can’t keep a secret more than a few minutes. I get too excited and spill the beans.

That's exciting. I'd have to give it early inside a purse with a long face. hehe...

Great find and well done for keeping it quiet. My wife wears the same watch and loves it. I recently bought her a SS 31mm DJ to go with it and planned to keep it until her birthday in October. It was under 24 hours before I cracked and gave it to her!

I was lucky enough to find an OP 26 with a silver stick dial at an AD and got a really good deal on it that I could not refuse. They were also clearing them out for $3800 Canadian. so like you, I got a great deal.

I gave it to my wife for her 40th b-day last month and she absolutely loved it but she likes smaller watches. Your wife should love the DJ you picked up for her.

They are so tiny.
