Yes, I have been away from TRF for two years.
I’m back with a gmt question.

Will a fatlady bracelet 78790A fit correctly on my gmt 16750 ...?
I have a submariner 93150 bracelet on the gmt now, and I am planning a bracelet trade. Has anyone tried this ?

I don’t see why not as long as the end links fit. 501 end links for 16760 n 580 for 16750. They r of different thickness.

Btw, 593 would also fit the thicker case.

I don’t think that bracelet was ever fitted on a 16760 but it might fit, what you really need is a 78360 for the 16750.

So my challenge is this, do I want to upgrade to a newer bracelet on a 1980 vintage gmt watch. I’ll give it try this week, if it fits I may do the trade. The submariner clasp with the diver extension isn’t really needed when I sit in meetings all week...

I would also concur with Lee. I would find a nice 78360 bracelet with 580 end links. You could sell your 93150 bracelet which is in the same price range as a 78360 Oyster.

The 78790A is not a "Fat Lady" bracelet. The 78790A is the SEL version of the earlier 78790 and was fitted to later 16710's and 16570's.

The GMT 16750 was not fitted with an SEL and may not have the machined case to fit one, so, no - no SEL will fit your GMT unless it has the back side machined to fit one.

On machined cases the 78790/78790A/and 93150 will all fit.

Thanks again gents. Perhaps my scheme to fit the wrong bracelet on my GMT should stop now. I am getting a new crystal installed on that watch... That would be a better and less costly improvement...

It sounds like your mistake might be in using the wrong reference number. The Fat Lady is a 16760, not a 16750.

The 78790A SEL bracelet will fit a 16760 case using the original 16760 springbars. If you have a 16760 GMT II and not a 16750 GMT then the bracelet you want will work for you.

Maybe you should trade with someone who happens to have an incorrect 78360 on his 5513.

Hey thanks David. I’ve been so busy with other things that required all of my time.
Yet here I am this morning waiting for the watchmaker to open his doors to try out the bracelet and get a new Rolex crystal for the gmt master - so I must truly be a WIS, and a TRF fan...

What I have missed for the last 24 months...?

Not much! Snowflake n 1675 just tripled in prices in those 2 years, n still going up. Oh BTW more experts now on TRF.

The experts were correct, thanks TRF again for helping me continue to learn.

However, I did use an alternative method to obtain my goal of getting the lighter/smaller clasp on my GMT 16750 without having to source another higher priced band. Note that this is my watch, and it's never for sale. Purists please look away while I explain:

-I removed the newer 78790A (AB6 stamped clasp) and adjoining end link (one on each side) from the this newer GMT bracelet.
-I then added my submariner 93150 main links to the above mentioned clasp/links.
-Lastly, I brushed the new links to match the submariner links.

So my GMT 16750 maintains the correctly fitting end links, but now I get the benefit of the smaller lighter clasp without the submariner diver's extension.

I don't recommend this type of hack job to anyone else, but it worked perfectly for me. I am really happy with the bracelet upgrade.

If I had my way and it was cost effective, I would have the newer billet clasps on all of my watches.
