Hi everyone!Just joined the forum and wanted to say hi!

Hi guys,

Long story short, worked hard last year, got a bonus, looking to get my first nice watch and Rolex submariner definitely caught my eyes.
That being said, I live in Vancouver and all 3 Rolex ADs in town said to me if I want to purchase the steel sports models I will need to purchase another watch on display first and then they can promise me a sub next year. But not sure when.
I am a total noob in this watch world so asking to see if this is the general case?

Thank you in advance!

Unfortunately, yes a lot of time. Keep asking around. A no date/date sub can be had. Just keep looking...

Hi everyone!Just joined the forum and wanted to say hi!

Welcome! . I remember the beginning for me. Yes, your experience is typical. Keep looking. I see posts where people find a Sub at an AD. It can be done. And consider buying from a seller here if you don’t want to wait. I’ve bought several watches online and from folks on this forum. All my deals have gone smoothly, whether buying or selling.

Welcome, I'd skip the AD and see what the Trusted Sellers on this forum have to offer. Have bought/sold with them multiple times and have never had any issues whatsoever.

Welcome! Keep looking or buy from a trusted seller on TRF. What sense does it make to buy a 6-7k watch you don't want just to get the watch you do want.

Welcome to you. I wouldn't go for that. Subs pop up here and there, it's timing, however they might be playing that game and holding them in back, with Christmas coming l wouldn't doubt it. I'd go the trusted seller route and save a few bucks on a slightly used 2017-18

Welcome! Be warned - you'll spend lots of time around here if you get the Rolex bug. I caught it almost 2 years ago and finally got my first one, a SubC Date, two days ago.

What you're saying is typical of the last 18 months or so and from what I've seen around the forum Vancouver is a tough market.

If you want it now, then trusted seller is the route - but you'll pay a premium for even a a year old, excellent condition SubC Date. Brand new in box, unworn you're looking at at least $1K over retail.

If you have patience and are determined, keep calling around at ADs until someone puts you on a list or you may just get lucky. I had to wait 3 months for a SubC Date in the DC Metro area but got it at MSRP which may as well be a discount nowadays!

Best of luck!

I don't think $1K over retail is bad at all. It's 9.5% tax over here if bought from a local AD which is about $800 already. so you bypass the waiting game for a relatively cheap $200.

Welcome to the forum, from a fellow Vancouverite! Sorry to hear you are not having any luck getting a Submariner.

There are actually 4 ADs in the Vancouver area: Rolex Boutique on Alberni Street, Montecristo Jewellers in Oakridge, Lugaro in Park Royal, and Palladio Jewellers on Hastings street. If you have only tried three, then maybe give the fourth a try. You never know.

I have bought a Rolex at three of them, at one time or another, but they have not been sports models. Anyway, I would try whichever one you have not yet visited.

Cheers,
Carl

Welcome, it's a really tough time to buy SS models right now.
Instead of calling, try going into a store and talk to the reps.
Maybe offer to put down a deposit and wait for a little while.
Show them you are ready to buy and not a flipper.

The chase is always fun.
Good luck.

Welcome and I’d highly recommend trusted sellers on TRF. Keep asking around but paying a small premium is worth it, IMO.

Welcome! If you don’t mind going Grey Market/trusted seller,, you’re looking at maybe $1000 over retail for Black SubC date.. The cost from an AD plus tax closes that gap. If that amount is worth your instant gratification, then go for it. If you dont mind waiting and want the AD experience, then be prepared for a possibly long wait.

Gunna pay over list from a grey, I’d find a reasonable AD, or look at other brands. Take a look at the explorer, rich history and less common/ easier to aquire.

Welcome, unfortunately that is kind of the status quo for SS Rolex sport models.

Welcome. You need to reach out of Vancouver... look inland to smaller city AD's! Might get lucky there.
