If I had to guess the white standout was the Roulot, and for the red the Chave.

Am I close?

For the whites, the Roulot and Taittinger CdC were my faves for whites. The CdC was a UK distributed bottle, and it did seem notably livelier and crisper compared to recent CdC bottles that were US distro.

'88 Chave was nice, but the '82 LLC was better IMO. The whites overall were better than the reds, though the port was better than the Sauternes.

Had an '88 Chave seven months ago that was really damn good, so not sure if I'd chalk it up to a decline. Probably just a bit of bottle variation, especially when the same buddy brought the Chave each time.

Had some of this tonight, slightly out of my comfort zone and still trying to decide if I like it or not. Plenty of dominating toasted barrel, roasted pecans, espresso with caramel notes and revolving hints of forest floor all holding the fruit in suspended animation. The tannins on this are in there for sure but they're hidden away working in the background. Finishes almost too smooth which has me second guessing it at times.

For sure! Perhaps yours, just found mold in our bathroom and adjacent wall last night. We'll be doing construction ourselves for a while. Insurance won't cover it so it's coming out of my wine budget and then some.

I’d go with something like a Stags Leap Artemis or maybe a Silver Oak Alexander Valley.

These are a couple of very good, very consistent wines within reasonable price points.

also fairly easy to find.

Chewy, textured, unfiltered good old Hawkes Bay NZ Syrah (Shiraz) 2014. Full bodied yet silky. Yummy. Nose of cherries

and oak lingers after the drink

We were just in NZ/Hawke's Bay a month ago. Loved it -- stayed at Black Barn Vineyard for four nights. Spent time on Waiheke also.

Brought back a couple of bottles of Elephant Hill I'm looking forward to opening.

Sunday afternoon. Watching the Cricket (Aust Vs India) and having finished off a nice Shiraz from last night I am now enjoying a glass or two of 'Bullers Muscat'.
This is a lovely full-flavoured Muscat from the famous Rutherglen area of Victoria.
Not an expensive Muscat but one that delivers above it's price range.

Stralya makes one of the best new world wines from vintage vateities. Especially reds.

I like that too. Aromatic and mouthful.

Now I have to buy this...
