Most Desirable 1680 Red Dial?

Not sure if this question has been asked before (I did perform a search) but what is generally the most desirable 1680 Red Dial? I guess the common answer will be "the oldest" but I personally prefer the MKV due to the crisp text.

the best is the mk1 meter first...in my opinion

actually the mk3 went tropical too, if you do research Mk2 and Mk3 should have been named Mk2a and Mk2b ;)

rarity is mk1 rarest, then mk3
but most appealing is of course mk2 and mk3 tropical by far, they can be magic

I didn't get from the OP's question that the "tropical effect" was part of the equation, rather it was simply asked which dial version is the most desirable?

For me, the "the most desirable" is the best condition dial with the most pleasing visual attractiveness, whether it's crispness, color/tone, patina, etc ... All other considerations are secondary. I don't care about which "Mark" variation it is, and "meters first" is irrelevant to me unless is comes on a dial that has other stunning qualities, such as a rich patina and/or beautiful tropical fading.

Again, as with everything, dial or otherwise, it's the actual condition that determines desirability, IMHO.

I always found the the mk2 and mk4 dials to have a nice vivid red text that really jumps off the dial.
Mk1,3,5,6 are substantially duller.

This makes the most sense. We should be chasing for condition than so-called desirable mk. Of course unless you plan to have a collection.

However: on the 'pie' mk2 and mk3 are grouped together, but out of that , in the wild you will see about 80% of those 2 are mk2. 4 mk2 for 1 mk3 thereabout. I collected red subs for 20 years, and mk3 are really rare, just about as rare as mk1: go ahead try and find one , whereas mk2 are out there :)

Now that's a stunner! Lume looks quite a bit different on the MF and I'm not sure I usually like it, but this one is just right!

Thanks! My favorite part is you can see what almost looks like a fabric imprint on the lume. See, for example, the 11 o'clock plot. Not sure how they applied it to the dial, but it's a cool detail.
