Ok, I almost had a heart attack today.

I had all my watch boxes, papers, extra links etc. stored in a large plastic container and I kept said container in a guest closet. I went to retrieve a link for one of my watches today and the box IS GONE!

I have this flash back about a conversation I had with my wife a few weeks ago where I have some vague memory of her telling me she was planning on cleaning out some old stuff to make room in the guest closet for when my parents visit. Never thought about my watch boxes.

The panic attack kicks in when after giving her a call as she was out running errands I ask, "Where is the plastic bin from the guest closet?"

Her response froze my heart. "I cleaned it out and used the bin to store some stuff in the basement." Before I could ask the next question, she says "Our daughter is yelling and I'll have to call you back."

I'm crushed. All of my watch boxes gone with particular angst about loosing my Rolex materials.

A couple hours go buy which swings the my emotions from depression to anger.

How could she be so stupid? Who throws out such valuable personal things without asking?

She doesn't get ten feet in the door before I start to yell, "How could you throw out MY WATCH BOXES!!!" She looks at me like I am

She's starts to giggle and says" Do you really think I would throw out your watch boxes? I'm not stupid. I put them in two drawers nobody is using in the guest dresser."

Ahhhh, Did I mention how smart my wife is!

All's well that ends well!

Anyone else have a similar near heartache or worse, have had your loved one accidentally (or on purpose) throw out your watch boxes/papers!

I keep all my watch stuff locked up in a filing cabinet, so no worries.

Never allow anyone to "clean" anything. Inevitably whatever you are looking for will have been binned or "tidied" beyond finding.

The wife accuses me of willing to listen to Charles Manson just to be fair, but judging the family as 100% guilty before asking any questions. Oh well, at least I am always right.

I do have a story. In 1998 we were moving and I looked out the window and saw an old suitcase out by the garbage, along with a ton of other stuff we were putting out on the street for people to take if they wold like. Well, the old blue suitcase was still by the curb a few days later and I just happened to go out and pick it up. Boy, was it heavy and I decided to look into it. What did I find? My coin collection that I started in the 1950s. I am a serious collector and for some reason I stored them in the suitcase instead of the safe.

Don't remember why or when, but I did.

Boy was I lucky.

Important things are. . . important. Stored above the spill level of the hot water heater. Not stored in the kitchen (a small number of things (NOT clear jewels) aside). Inside NOTHING that EITHER of you has decided to some day throw away. etc. In a two person house, sadly, two people must know the locations for better security.
