Stolen: Rolex GMT Master Ref. 1675 Serial # 3298897

My Rolex GMT Master ref. 1675, serial number # 3298897, from 1971, which I have owned for over 22 years, was stolen last night in New York City. As per the New York City Police Department, it is now stolen property and whoever is stupid enough to buy it will forfeit their money, as one can never acquire clear title to stolen goods. I am sure that it will eventually turn up in some pawn shop or on eBay. The watch has tremendous sentimental value to me and I would reward generously anyone who could help return it to me. I can be reached at jjmcd43 @yahoo.com or 203-708-7255. Thank you.

A photo or two would be helpful.
Also, how was it stolen?

Insured? Hope it turns up and no one is taken another time (by buying it). I wish Rolex had an online searchable stolen database available for the public.

I share your emotions with the situation. The honest pawnbrokers will check the list of stolen watches. eBay is a crap shoot.

From the years you’ve been here you likely know the drill...get the police report, make a report to RUSA of the theft and hope for a quick outcome. There is one thing you can do on eBay if you’d like - create a search that includes key words like GMT 1675. Then have it notify you whenever a new listing comes up.

There is a chance they could recover the watch in an unrelated bust. Out of the 4 Rolexes stolen here in a burglary, one was recovered from the thieves. And it was due to good law enforcement work/cooperation as the thieves were hitting homes in multiple nearby jurisdictions.

Sorry to hear about this - you were robbed not only of your watch but of the memories throughout the years. I hope you can get it back. I second 77T's recommendation of having a notification search for the model on eBay, I have heard of stories of recovering stolen and lost watches when they show up on eBay.

Very sorry to hear this. I'm especially sorry that it had sentimental value. Please don't feel any pressure to post details of the theft. I've had several watches stolen previously and understand that there are good reasons to not talk about the circumstances. I hope they're recovered (which actually happened to me once, a decade after the theft, so don't give up hope!).

Ugh I’m sorry to read this.

Especially with the sentimental value.

Hope it makes its way home soon!

Disagree.
Without details this thread is of very little actionable value.
Two benefits of sharing :
1 recovery
2 retrospective analysis/ lessons learned

Each require details unless we want a long “thoughts and prayers” thread.

Why??

There is no advantage to not sharing this info. The watch has no title, and it isn't registered to a new owner. If you to increase the chance of recovery, sharing as much info as possible is the best hope...including photos. These details not only help the OP, it can be useful to everyone on this forum.

I agree, Cajun, that photos would be helpful. Other than that, right now the guy just wants his watch back -- that's the only stated reason for his post (not to analyze retrospectively, to teach or learn lessons, etc.) -- and he already gave us the serial number, model number, place of theft, and date of theft. I wouldn't presume that knowing anything more about the theft would aid in recovering the watch. Rather, I would defer to the OP's judgment in making that determination. Presumably, if and when the OP decides that additional details could possibly help us recover his watch, he'll post them. As I said in my previous post, the OP may have very good reasons for not wanting to share additional details. I have been in that position, which is why I defer to the OP's judgment. So let's hope for some helpful photos, especially if there's anything distinctive about this particular 1675!

Yeah NYC isn't that big right.

Perhaps dealers or people could keep an eye out if it happened in the diamond district or whatever.
