Best beater watch?

Before I just go buy a G shock or whatever similar plastic/rubber low priced watch, is there some cool inexpensive thing I should be looking at? Something akin to a good old trail truck with lockers rather than a Porsche GTR3?

I don't wear my watches when I'm wrenching on the cars, camping, doing yardwork, mountain biking, etc etc etc. But I'd like to wear one. I almost don't care about any particular features or complications, except maybe it would be cool to have a chronograph. Oh and it should be legible.
