Since you're at least partially interested in the attention factor, I'd agree that a used Sub would be a better choice. Don't get me wrong, an Exp1 is definitely a Rolex and a great watch, but it's missing some of the styling cues like the cyclops or rotating/fluted bezel that many identify with Rolex. And it doesn't have a date function.
