Calling San Diego

I'm heading to San Diego June 12-15 for the US Open at Torrey Pines. Awww yeah!! I've got a group of four buddies, and we're going to play (and watch) some golf, eat some steak, and have a good time for 4 days.

Anyway, we're looking for a place to stay. Hotels are already slammed and charging out-of-site rates.

Anyone got any ideas or inside tips? Sometimes folks rent out their weekend homes (or regular homes) for big sporting events, or you might know a local hotel that flies under the radar.

We're looking for a nice place, but we don't need the Four Seasons or anything. Mariott/Hilton category is about our speed. Something downtown or on the Marina would be ideal.

Any ideas??
