Its amazing to see a handmade hand finished product that by todays standards looks so perfect that it could well have been made with the precision of a machine. It is generally accepted that there are modern machine made watches that offer better accuracy. But these have no soul, for me comparable to the difference between having an actual painting made by an artist versus a print or a machine made reproduction.
It doesnt stop there. The same people who do not understand the cost of certain watches are the same people who DO understand that clothes carry different prices, or that home furnishings carry different prices, or cars have different prices, etc. Its everywhere and all around all of us but certain things are more accessible and thus more accepted
Why do we pay to go to a concert? Downloading is much cheaper
Why go to a michelin restaurant? McDonalds sells cheaper to exacting standards
Why pay for a perfect/restored old timer? New cars are more reliable
For those asking a sincere questions they will be fascinated by a sincere answer and we will potentially have gained new members to "our" community
Its a great question that I had to explain to my parents, who thought I was irresponsible when I bought my first high(er)end watch.

Excellent discussion. Thanks. I am at work today with a nice IWC Big Pilot. Every time I look at it I smile. To me that is worth the cost.
You can't use your boat or motorcycle at work to make you happy. ( unless you are a boat captain or Motorcycle racer )
