07, 08 Daytona series question...

So uh....

I'm out and about the other night at a social function and meet another Rolexer (he was really a pompas-ass but that's a whole other story). He complimented me on my Daytona and asked me what year it was. Since I bought it in February, I told him an 08, and casually add it's a "Z" series.

He begins to lecture me on how wrong I am. If it's a Z, and I bought it on February of 08, the watch MUST have been made in 07, therefore it's an "07" model.

He was a SUPERB example of people you meet and just want to pop them in the nose, but over-looking that, his lecture made me ponder a couple points, hopefully one of you really smart TRFers can answer.

1. WHY, does he care?

2. IS there any validity to what he said? I really don't care, but for curiosity sakes, would my watch technically be an 07 or an 08?

3. WHY, does he care?

You know, I've really got to get a social life and stop hagning out in the places I meet people like him...
