Because he's holding up his end of the deal. Now if he was calling the Mr. SooooooCal and asking for the Daytona only back I would be on the other side of this mess.

I don't even care if the OP can somehow simply return the jewelry, that doesn't make it ethical any more than if the AD had sold him the diamonds and then told him the Daytona wasn't available.
