Protecting Buckle from Scratches

It's in beautiful condition and i'd like to keep it that way, but this raises a problem i've had with all watch bracelets in the past, scratching the buckle by rubbing against tables, etc. Eventually i wind up with a crappy-looking buckle although the rest of the watch looks nice.

I don't want that to happen to this watch, so what do you do about it? At the moment i have a piece of scotch tape over the buckle, but i'm sure there are less ugly ways than that.

(no doubt some quipster is going to say that the best way to preserve the buckle is not to wear the watch. I'm interested in serious responses).
