The 5167A doesn’t age well. Change my mind.
Hypothesis based on (very) few observations: the 5167A doesn’t look good when used.
The brushed bezel, which is probably the most attractive part of the integrated case, turns unsightly when scratched and/or dented. Also, the otherwise matte Tropical strap gets this cheap plasticky shine over time, which you don’t see on the Oysterflex or the silicone RM straps. I briefly owned a brand new Aquanaut in the summer of 2016 but sold it fairly quickly after I saw Alan Maleh’s on Hodinkee (see link). It seems as though this watch doesn’t age with the same charm as, say, a Submariner or even a classic Calatrava, such as the ref. 96 for example. https://hodinkee.imgix.net/uploads/b.../8981/_img.jpg What are your views? |
