WTS: Vacheron Constantin Les Historiques 47101

Price: USD 28,200

Description

This is the Vacheron Constantin Overseas 47101. Founded in 1755, Vacheron Constantin is the world’s oldest continually operating watch manufacturer. A rich history of producing quality of the highest standards, they are undoubtedly one of the most resilient as well, surviving both world wars and many other historical events along the way. They’re also the purveyor of the world’s most complicated wristwatch.

Introduced in 1989, the 47101 was introduced as part of the Historiques collection and is a modern interpretation of their iconic reference 4178. This reference is powered by the historically important Lemania 2310, an ebauche used by other defining chronographs such as the Patek Philippe 5070, the Roger Dubuis Sympathie and the Breguet 3237. This particular movement is historically significant given that it was the base that was used to power defining chronographs of the 80s at the heart of the Quartz crisis.

With regards to the watch itself, the case is a very wearable 37mm with a sapphire exhibition caseback that shows off the gorgeous movement. The dial is symmetrically silver with two subdials at the 3 and the 9 as well as an outer tachymeter scale. The layout of the subdials as well as the indexes allows the watch to remain legible and clean.

As with many watches from the neo-vintage era, it has experienced a resurgence in collectability for the ones who understand the historical importance of Lemania-based chronographs from that period. While understated, the 47101 remains one of the most functional and aesthetically-pleasing watches from that era.

Condition

This Vacheron Constantin 47101 is in very good pre-owned condition. There are some hairlines on the yellow gold case from prior wear with no dings. There is some patina on the case from age. The dial is clean and there are no flaws on both the front and back crystal. It also comes in a full set of original box and certificate dated 2001. The watch is in full working order.
