Incoming Grail - Got the call

Sorry for the long story in advance but this is my story.

Been a watch enthusiast my whole life. I’ve always wanted a Rolex, especially the Submariner Date but have never been able to purchase one as I couldn’t afford one at the time. It has been my grail for as long as I can remember.
Now that I am 37, on better wages I can now get the watch I’ve always wanted. Problem was, we now have these hoops you need to jump into before you can get that one watch you want. I knew I couldn’t just go in and ask for the Sub.

I’ve also really liked the DJ in a white dial. In 2020, the Mrs said she wanted to buy me a Rolex for our wedding anniversary. I thought if I can get the the DJ this would start that cycle of getting the Sub.
We tried calling around to different AD’s weeks beforehand with no luck, same story that we don’t have any etc. Our actual anniversary day arrived so I contacted my local AD again (I never tried them before, not sure why), asked for a DJ 41 white dial, smooth bezel and oyster bracelet. My SA said she had one that wasn’t allocated to anyone and I could have it. Dropped everything and picked it up, warranty card has the date of our wedding anniversary and that watch has so much sentimental value now! Since getting it, it’s been my daily watch I wear to work.

While I was there I asked if there’s a chance I could get the Sub date. I was put on the waiting list and the journey began. I would check in every few months with the same SA who helped me get my first Rolex at my local AD. She said she would do her best and I’m still on the list.
2 years passed and I popped in again to see my SA one Sunday, chatted away about usual day to day things and asked if there’s any update on the Sub. I nicely reminded her that it’s almost now 2 years since my initial request. Advised her I was still very keen and when it comes in, I will stop what I’m doing and can be there within 30min to pick it up. She said she’ll see what she can do and we left it at that.

2 days later my phone is ringing. I look at the screen and it’s a call from the AD. Before I answer it I’m thinking this can’t be it, surely this isn’t that infamous call everyone talks about. I answer the call and my SA says to me “Your watch has arrived!”. Inside I’m jumping for joy and true to my word, I said “I’m on my way to you now and will be there in 30min.” The wife and I wrapped up what we were doing that day and headed straight to the AD. She brought it out my Sub, sized it to my wrist, made the purchase then left. I couldn’t believe that day came where I now own that Watch I’ve always wanted.

It’s now been 3 months since that day and every time I put this watch on, it puts the biggest smile on my face.

This photo was taken while in my car on my iPhone 12 Pro Max. It’s the best photo I’ve taken of it so far! I think uploading it here reduced the quality of the photo, but I’m sure you’ll know what I mean.
