The loss in privacy would be outweighed by the gain in security. The location could simply be State for US-based IP addresses, and just Country for any non-US IP addresses. That's not a huge cost in loss of privacy, but in this case the Nigeria location being visible would have directly prevented the fraud.

I hope this improvement is considered rather than dismissed out of hand.

it would do nothing as scammers would just use a VPN if location is displayed
