Choosing watches

I turned 50 this year and decided to buy a Rolex to commemorate the big milestone. The problem is I found a beautiful watch for 12 and a stunning watch for 22. My dilemma isn't whether I can afford it or not, but rather, have I reached a point in life that I'm being stupid with money? I haven't worn a watch since I retired, about 8 years, so this isn't like it's something I need. Rather just something to show myself, and the world, I've done pretty well for myself. Although thr higher one is definitely a "eff all yall peasants" piece. Haha. But really, for those of you who understand where I'm coming from, how did you decide? Even the lower priced one is a watch most people will never own. I realize even buying one is a luxury.
