2024 Acquisitions & Dispositions
I've been posting these the last couple of years... it's fun for me to go back and look at the changes in my collection from year-to-year. I'm refining it more and have (mostly) stopped with the impulse purchases and buying watches just because I've had a glass of champagne.
Acquisitions: In March, I brought two watches into the collection. First up was the reference that rekindled my fascination with watches about 11 years ago. The Omega Globemaster Annual Calendar is one that I have been enthralled with for a long time. I had seen the slate dial / blue accents and liked it, but never enough to pull the trigger. I thought I had settled on the green variation until I saw this. I really didn't have any watches with a red dial and the rose gold bezel and strap sealed it. This was an outright purchase at a really smokin' price. Later in March, I picked up a Bluesy. I've really started to appreciate two-tone watches more and now am more focused on watches with PM and complications. I traded out one watch for this as an even trade. I had a couple of bad experiences trying to buy watches (long story) and was a little depressed. So, in June, I "watched" a watch on ebay and watched as the price fell more and more. Finally, I decided to make an offer and it was accepted. I welcomed this rose gold Glashutte Original Senator Perpetual Calendar into the collection. If you saw my post from last year, you know that I traded out a stainless GO Perpetual that I just never bonded with. I'm definitely feeling this one more than the old one. In October, I decided to consolidate my collection a little more. I traded out five watches that were in my second and third tiers for this Breguet Type XX Transatlantique. Again, echoing the theme of PM and/or complicated watches. This is a little flashier than I usually wear, but, wow, what a substantial, heavy piece! The year isn't over yet. There's a possibility (slim as it may be) of one more watch coming in this year. I'm trying to resist temptation. So, the scorecard by year: 2020 - In 11 - Out 3 2021 - In 3 - Out 10 2022 - In 17 - Out 5 2023 - In 4 - Out 3 2024 - In 4 - Out 6 |
