Customized Rolex???
I'm 100% WIS - case in point: my wife's gift to me for our one year anniversary in March was a trip to Baselworld - and have many watches (I'm actually an Oris fan, over all) but my MOST ULTIMATE grail is a Rolex. in fact, it's a DLC-coated Daytona with bright red and white hands and a transparent caseback. Of course, Rolex doesn't sell this kind of Chuck-Norris-level bad-assery, so I'd have to have it worked over - gasp! - outside of the Racing Green walls of Rolex, Inc. Understanding the risks, and believing a watch is more than just its future value, why aren't more Rollie fans (read: us) talking about customization?
When I sold Rolexes we were taught to push the "traditional" styling of Rolex, which loosely translates to "boring" more often than not. Rolex sells more mechanical watches than all the rest COMBINED - wouldn't making yours unique be a GOAL? especially with more people acquiring more expendable income at a younger age, I'm curious as to why so few of them are making their exatly-like-everyone-else's-subs/GMTs/expies more unique, more personal, more sentimentally valuable. your thoughts? oh, and without further ado, the grail, curtesy of Project X Design: |
