A strange morning at the AD story
I have been planning for weeks the pickup of my new datejust II. Because Im either working or taking care of the kids, its really hard to plan time in to go to the AD during office hours. Well, the chosen time was this morning at 10:00 am, exactly at opening time. The next oppertunity was in the week after christmas....
Well, to start things off, I woke up thismorning to a snow storm! Here in holland a rare occurance. Since moving here 18 years ago, I have never experienced this much snow... All schools closed and you know.....Wouldnt it figure.... At this point I decided that if I wanted to get my watch before christmas then I would have to make the trip to the city on the bike!!! Yes, picking up a Rolex on the bike...Sounds strange.... The roads were completely jammed with poeple who thought that driving would be possible. Im glad I didnt need to get behind the wheel....The traffic was backed up for miles... Anyhow, after a horrowing 75 minute trip I made it to my destination only to see that the AD was closed!!! I went to the nearby coffie shop and had a cappuchino and went back to see if the lights were on... NO.. SHIT I THOUGHT..... but what I did see was my AD shoveling!!! I offered to help and he pleasingly accepted my offer. After 30 minutes the entrance was clear and the shop opened... After coffie and a nice chat, he produced my new watch for me to try on again. Yes it was definitly a go...The SS/WG Datejust II with white dial.. After producing my credit card I thought, á quick transaction and then back home I go... Unfortunitly nothing could have been less true.... The credit card was denied!!! To top it off, The AD had priced the watch incorrectly, so when I finally got the the credit card manager on the phone, he was all confused about the transaction because of the exceedingly high price.....and was not to quick to accept the transaction. After explaining that it was a mistake and the correct price was put through, the deal was set...... After packing my new watch in, with ribbon mind you!!! I was off for yet a second harrowing trip......Im home now and enjoying reflecting on my first Rolex purchase.... A morning I will never forget!!! pete |
