The one that got away (My Rolex Dreamgirl)

This is a little tale about something that happened to me about 3 months ago. I would love to hear your feedback and/or your own similar experiences if you've had any. Maybe this will help me stop feeling like such a jackass!

One afternoon after another day of bludging around in my office shuffling papers and lurking on TRF - I decided to grab some lunch. As has been a habit for me since I hit the tender old age of 28, I thought I'd get some sushi as I somehow feel it is healthier than other foods as it is not processed and generally fresh. I went to my usual sushi train type restaurant and sat in the only spare seat. I noticed immediately that there was a particularly cute girl sitting next to me and I could tell she noticed me too as we exchanged pleasant smiles, so far so good. I grab a few plates and start eating (never a good look) and I start thinking about a way of initiating a conversation with this adorable girl. All of a sudden I notice she's wearing a ladies DJ with Jubilee (RolexRolexRolex) Dial. I will point out at this juncture that in Sydney, Australia where I live - people wearing Rolex's are almost non-existent. Anyway I immediately strike up a conversation with this girl and we start chatting about her watch and my watch (I was wearing my DJ that day, thankfully). It also turns out this girl is the same age as me, is very intelligent and witty and everything is going great. It's like something out of a movie at this moment. Anyway the girl had finished her food a good 5-10 minutes earlier and was sitting around purely for the conversation. This is the juncture at which I really screw it up - the pause in the conversation between topics when I should have asked her for her number and in my stupidity for reasons I cannot explain do not. The girl calls the waitress over and pays her bill on the spot. She then puts her arm on my shoulder and says something along the lines of 'nice chatting to you' and gives me a look expecting me to do something, but alas I don't do anything at all - then she exits my life forever. I went back the next day at the exact same time hoping she might be there, but no luck. Exactly a week later I tried once again and once again she was nowhere to be seen. I believe that life presents you certain moments and opportunities from time to time - I feel like I royally screwed this one up. I've never been afraid to approach cute girls and chat to them and ask for a number at the appropriate moment if I feel that we click. For some reason on this particular day though I didn't go through with it and I think I'll regret this for a very long time.

So there you have it - I realise it's no Joeychitwood epic story or anything like that, just another day in the life of Dave :)
