why is the difference between new and old pams

why is the new pam104 with its applied dial greenish and seems just placed on top of a flat dial compared to the old pam like 112 (applied dial) which have white markers and the markers placed on a slightly engraved surface?

so now it seems some pams to me are now unappealing and hastily made.
