How do you wind a Sub?

I just bought a SS Sub. It ran out of power the other day and I went to manual wind it in Position 1 (Crown just off the treads).

While i was winding nothing happened. I tried turning the crown in both CW and CCW direction.

The second hand will only start moving if I shake the watch. Is there something I'm doing wrong here with the manual winding?

Please help a newb.
