The "Interesting Fact (or Myth)" thread.

Time for another "Interesting Fact" thread I reckon.

You are heavier after your watch is fully wound.


The potential energy stored in the mainspring actually weighs something.

It's an almost infinitesimally small weight .... and someone else would have to wind it for you because if you did it you'd be losing weight performing the action and defeating the object.

Then again the oil/water the person deposits on the crown whilst winding it would be hugely more heavy than the stored energy and whilst they're doing it you'd be breathing and metabolising which completely counteracts the effect.

In fact it's a completely stupid example but this is a watch forum after all.

Perhaps you've got a more interesting fact, can't be difficult.

.... or if you want to bust a myth, go for it.
