New posters describing sought-after watches etc.

As those of you who lurk here often know, there've been quite a number of posts (mostly by new posters) lately describing a watch (often a sought-after one) or other item and asking some question about it, such as estimated value etc, without posting any pictures. What's common to these posts is that it's evident right away or after awhile that there's something funny about them.

Any ideas what it's all about? Just attempted scams? Or something more sophisticated? Sometimes I suppose the posters try to get offers for watches they own without having the required number of posts for posting in the For sale section. But is there more to it?
