As for the price, it shouldn't have been unexpected. The 18ct Daytona on bracelet (YG) retails at c. £20000, whilst the YM II retails at c. £27000: the bi-metal Daytona retails at c. £10000, the bi-metal YM II retails at £17000. £7k price difference each time, and that's pretty much just down to the movement. It certainly is a lot for a bi-metal watch, but look at it this way: the cal. 4160 is unique. No other manufacturer can make a regatta chronograph with a programmable memory. It's the most impressive complication Rolex has perhaps ever done, and compared to, say, a Patek complication watch, £17000 begins to look like a bit of a bargain. Add into Rolex's every day wearability and ruggedness too, it makes it seem downright incredible. You really shouldn't be judging the YM II against the rest of the Rolex range, it's in a different league mechanically.

Good post, Chris and very informative
