Decision time soon - Steel GMT IIc or DSSD
I'm looking to spend some money in the next few days. Think it's going to be on either the steeel GMT IIc or a DSSD.
At present, I have a 16220 Datejust, a 16600 Sea-Dweller 4000 and a 116520 Daytona. I generally wear the Datejust and Sea-Dweller during the working week and I love them a little bit too much. Having been wearing them for 11 and 8 years respectively (since getting each as a new watch from an AD), I am thinking of retiring them as daily watches. As much as anything, this is because I really would be devastated if anything happened to either watch and I wasn't able to get an identical replacement, which would be impossible for the Datejust and extremely unlikely for the Sea-Dweller 4000 (unless I found a friendly dealer with an unworn one sitting in a safe). I have quite small wrists and it has struck me that hiding a DSSD up my shirt sleeve when at work would be pretty tricky, but it is a beast of a watch and I love it! As for the GMT IIc, it is fantastically beautiful on the wrist and I love the polished centre links, the green 24-hour hand and the way that it sits close to the wrist. I have also tried the two-tone GMT IIc and two-tone Subc with both colours of dial, but I knew they weren't for me when I put them on. I must admit that there are a couple of Datejusts that I also like (the two-tone 116203 on Oyster bracelet with silver baton dial and the 116234 on Jubilee bracelet with silver baton dial) and the white Rolesor Datejust II with black Roman numeral dial (with single indice marker) is stunning. However, I'm sure it's going to be either the GMT IIc or DSSD. The AD that I bought my Daytona from has basically told me on several occasions to talk discounts if/when I'm ready to buy something else. Whichever watch I go for, I'm going to try for at least 10%. Does anyone in the UK think that more might be achievable? Also, any thoughts about which might hold its value, or even appreciate in value, better? I'm not buying as an investment, I'm going to wear the watch (as I wear the three I already have) but one of the ways I am trying to justify another watch is by buying something where I don't think I'm going to lose much money if disaster ever struck and I had a forced sale! There is a decent chance that, whichever I go for, as soon as I purchase it I will start saving for the one that I don't buy. All and any thoughts appreciated! |
