Gold 1950 GMT 8 Day

I went to Hawaii in june/july and there was a watch store I would walk past everyday that had a PANERAI LUMINOR 1950 GMT pam289 / 8day in the window. I kept looking at it and have wanted one since. And I dont have a gold watch and have always wanted 1 (rose or yellow).

I really like the face on the "marina" model, they call it carbon fiber, not sure if it is. But I admire the 8 day and especially the 10 day power reserve models. Always thought that was pretty cool, I dont know many other watches that have that length of a power reserve.

Ive been looking into the movements. I know some use a zenith and some are in-house. Anyone have any input about the different movements and models?

one thing is that I see so many Panerai for sale here and on rolex forums which made me wonder, why are there so many for sale?

I also feel stupid, but there is the seconds dial on the side, the hour and minute hand but what is the arrow hand for?

I tried this one on today. It is a pre-owned at a store in BH.
