Hey, ya'll. Just got back from my mom's house. She still lives on the acreage where I grew up. There's a huge old bartlett pear tree out front that must stand more than 30 feet tall, and it's just loaded with hundreds of pears. I picked some for her last week, and came back this evening with three grocery bags full to give to friends. Truly organic, too - the tree has been pretty much ignored since Dad died. No pesticides or maintenance of any kind for several years now. But the pears are still gorgeous. I've cut two open and no worms, either. Just wish I knew how to get the rest of them down - can't reach them, even with the long-handled picker. I accidentally knocked a few of them down and they got a little smashed, but that will be a nice treat for the deer.
