Help me understand pricing on the old v new Submariner

Am I missing something? I see for sale posts for the "old" 16610" that claim collector pieces, or priced the same as a used ceramic 11610. Why would anyone pay what they can buy a new ceramic model submariner for for an "old" style submariner
Are the older models really collector pieces when there were so many produced? (I am speaking of the F-V serial) Is anyone actually getting ceramic prices for the non ceramic one?
I just do not understand the thought process.
