First Rolex! It's not what you'd expect....

Hi All,

I have been on this forum a long time. And I have been looking for a submariner for a long time: the 16800 model with matte dial. But, then life throws something into the cogs of your intentions, and you end up doing something completely different. A couple of months ago I came across and article about the Rolex oyster quartz. Being very surprised that Rolex even made quartz watches I started reading about them. I was fascinated by the amount of research they put into this watch (together with Girard Perregaux) and basically every quartz watch today is built pretty much on their template.
I was pretty hooked and started to look into these. Most of the models I didn;t like very much, but the 17000 was a very beautiful example...
In short, I bought one from 1979. Great condition and a very, very classy watch. So, not the submariner (although that might come some day) but a very rare (only 25000 OQ ever made!) Rolex 17000. I am chuffed to bits!
