Link question on glide lock

This has come up on a couple of threads today but I need clarification. Can anyone tell me if there is any difference in having 5 full links plus the half link on the 12 o'clock side when you have the flexibility of the glide lock? Someone mentioned running 4 full + the 1/2 link instead, but for the life of me, I can't see what difference it would make. My clasp is already sitting more to the 12 o'clock side as it is and it seems that this would pull it even farther that way. Can someone who has experimented with this post up? Thanks!
