FS: Vintage Zenith El Primero Chronograph A386 - NYC
For sale from my personal collection is the extremely rare and limited edition (of only 2500 pieces) vintage Zenith El Primero Chronograph A386. Known as the world's first automatic chronograph.
This watch is circa 1969-1972. Original automatic movement cal. 3019phc, original case, hands, etc. Zenith dial in very good aged condition, but with some light fading of the word Tachymetre in the upper right corner. I've been told it could be an early service dial. Either way, it is stunning. Zenith star on the caseback and crown. Caseback serial begins with 86XXXXX. Please excuse the lack of pictures of movement and caseback - I will try to get more up soon. Offered on a brand new and unworn Hodinkee strap (except for in these pics) that I just spent ~$200 on after tax and shipping. If you know the watch, you know it is an extremely collectible piece. Overall condition is very good, but PLEASE NOTE, it needs a light servicing. Watch keeps time and second hand runs, but the chronograph function is acting up a bit, especially when trying to reset. I shopped the watch around a bit for service estimates. I've been told by all it just needs a good cleaning. I've received estimates ranging from $400 in the diamond district to $810 from the respectable Aaron Farber on 5th Avenue for a complete overhaul with warranty. I know some collectors like to choose their own vendors and/or have connections so I am offering it up for sale in its current condition for $6900 shipped via wire. Watch is available in NYC for local viewing. Thanks for looking! |
