My First Rolex - Daytona!

I've been a long-time reader of this forum, but never joined until I finally became an owner of a Rolex myself.

Some background on how I came to be a proud Daytona wearer. I have admired the Daytona since the first time I learned about it more than two decades ago, but never bought one for some reason. For example, early on, I simply couldn't afford one. Then, even when I started making decent money, I still wasn't sure I wanted to spend so much on a watch. Then there was the fact that I honestly felt Rolex watches were some combination of pretentious, gaudy, and somewhat douchey. So I ended up purchasing a number of other chronograph watches over the years, including a Seiko, two Tags, and a Zenith El Primero.

While I enjoyed all of those watches, I found myself continuing to admire the Daytona and wanting one. I was drawn to it more than any other watch. For me, I really like the symmetry of face design, the sleek profile of the case, the perfect combination of brushed and polished metal, and the reliability of the movement (my Zenith had to be serviced twice in the first 2 years of ownership and still has some minor issues). Additionally, the more I read about Rolexes, the more I realized how misguided my early impressions were about the image they project. Actually, I felt like I went through the three stages of Rolex appreciation discussed in this article in Forbes:

So in April this year, I was presented with an opportunity to purchase a 116520 Daytona. There was no wait, the price was decent, and I had just attained a professional milestone for which I felt justified a self-reward, and so I decided to go for it! Two months later, I still couldn't be happier with my decision. The only problem with getting this watch (and reading this forum) is that I now find myself looking for another Rolex to buy!
