Addition to the collection! Day Date 118238
So, my interest in watches started a while back at a young age, then my godfather gave me for my 18th his 1992 Rolex Datejust in stainless steel and white gold (Bezel). I have loved owning this watch, especially as it is so light on the wrist, and generally easy to wear.
However, I remembered my grandfather had a Rolex Day Date in Yellow gold, one of the earliest ones (1960's I would imagine) with the entirely hollow bracelets. Sadly he passed away 6 years ago, and a part of me had always wanted to own a Day Date, as in my eyes, it was the ultimate a watch could be. Factor in the sentimental value of the Day Date from my grandfathers love of the watch, and it was a matter of finding the right one and making the numbers work. Several months of looking out, gauging prices and researching the different models (much thanks to the posts on this forum) and I had decided on a 118238 model. Anyway, Watches and Jewellery of Bond Street had a 2006 Day Date 118238, Yellow gold with Roman numerals for sale, and after it had been on their website for a while, I decided to enquire. Short version of the story, negotiated the price down to £10,250. What do people on here think of that price? It came with a Rolex box, (no papers, sadly) but has just had a service (internally with W&J Bond Street), and comes with a one year warranty and certificate of authenticity. There are no scratches on the watch at all, and no evident stretching in the bracelet. (apparently the original user had barely worn the watch). Absoluely love the Day Date, but my love and respect for my Datejust is still just as strong! Here are pictures: Hope you enjoy the pictures! |
