Rolex vs. "Others" in collection

I'll have my first Rolex in a couple weeks.

My wife an I were talking about it, and the others watches already in my collection yesterday. I've always had a rule "new watches get a week". A week worn straight, with no other watches in rotation. I mentioned the Rolex would get a month.

This brought up the question from her "did we waste a bunch of money on other watches and you're only going to wear this one?" She was smiling when she said it, but it is an interesting question.

Some watches in collection start crossing the line into nicer brands, a couple of Heuers, Hamilton, Raymond Weill, and some others that are of less value monetarily but in high in sentimental value.

So what about it? I'm sure I'm not the only one starting with other brands before moving into Rolex - do the others just sit and collect dust, or get wrist time?
