The importance of the hands...

As an obsessive consumer of watch images online, and in stores whenever I travel, I have realized that the hands on the dial carry a disproportionate impact on me as to whether I add the piece to my wish list.

More often than not, a nice piece gets eliminated when the hands, or even the hand on a sub-dial, looks "cheap" on a $10k+ watch.

For example, I really like the IWC Spitfire. But the red hand on the sub-dial looks kind of like plastic to me -- subjective I know, but it stops me in my tracks. Blasphemy for me to say this?

This may upset some people (I hope not), but I also found the hands on the beautiful Vacheron Worldtimer (In person, on the wrist) to be somehow carrying less gravitas than the rest of the dial...blasphemy for me to say this?
