Dear members, let me start by saying happy boxing day to all. I know I rarely post stuff up. But during my tenure here, I have found this to be a mature, fun, knowledgeable and fantastic forum. This place is like the google or Wikipedia of watches. Ask a question and you will get your answer. This is a great place indeed. The people here are genuinely fantastic and there is a wealth of information to be shared amongst all. I have grown to respect and enjoy this forum more with each passing day. I would like to thank everyone here for the sharing, caring and enjoying our watches the way we do.

And a little bit about my watches. I bought my first one when I had my first child and the second when my second was born. The reason why a Rolex is pure and simple, it is just such a robust watch. I used to hate...well...hate is a rather strong word. I used to avoid the brand as it really is something that everyone has. A brand that some wear to "show off" so to speak. But then again, if so many buys it, it has to be doing something right...right? Then it happened...an awareness. My grandfather who was wearing a manual wind 6694 finally had the winding crown break down on him. He wore that watch, day in and day out for 45 years. No regular service or such. He just woke up every morning, wound the watch up and off he went, going about his daily business. Till it that fateful day. My uncle then sent the watch to the local Rolex service centre and had it repaired. It came back with a new dial, hands, a service, polish, and was ticking away like it was brand new. What this means is that...no matter what, Rolex will always sort you out. And there is a Rolex service centre anywhere in the world. The final push came when I was having dinner with a friend and I noticed a vintage datejust, which I commented was such a classic. He said that it was given to him by his dad.
Then it struck me...it was such a cool idea...a birth year Rolex for each of my kids. So I bought them, wear them and let them see me wearing them so that it gets ingrained in their memories that I wear these watches which would someday be theirs.

The reason why I picked these two particular models are even simpler...when I was reading up on the history of Rolex, I learnt that green is their corporate colours. I play and love tennis and back when I can't tell the difference between a submariner and datejust. I only know that when I saw the milgauss with the green crystal, I thought it was cool esp since the great Federer was in a Rolex ad wearing one.


The next watch I bought only has just a little green in it, the classic 116710 but it was discreet. No tennis greats or what-have-you...just a simple GMT function, as I travel quite a bit for work. Don't get me wrong, I love the BLNR, but then again, I am a little traditional and wanted just that little bit of green in my watch and a function that I can use.
