History of the Red(ish) Chrono Certified Tag

I was going through some Rolex bits and pieces and came across an older red Officially Certified Chrono tag. It does not have a hologram on one side rather just a solid crown symbol surrounded by Rolex Watch Co etc. The other side is the same as current tags. I'm pretty sure its genuine, but can anyone confirm whether Rolex at some earlier stage did supply the tags without the hologram. I can't find any reference material on the subject.
