Daytona function question

Merry Xmas All!

So in love with the Daytona, but as newbies do, I have a question related to the function of the watch as when I wear my Sub-Date, I just wear it and forget about it. The Daytona, it seems, requires that extra step of TLC..

Question is, when unscrewing both pushers to start the timing function on the Daytona, do I need to leave these both unscrewed until I am done with the timing (whenever that point of time may be) or can they be screwed both back in & the timing function left to do it’s thing?

I’m thinking along the points of if I ever took this thing in the water, etc, etc. Can the timing function be left going along in the background, while obviously both pushers are screwed firmly back intact?

Thanks All
