Aluminium bezel

Hi guys, this may seem as a weird question but it's been on my mind for some time now. I've seen a couple of old Subs and SDs and recognized some spots on their aluminium bezels (like the big dark ones on the photo, but more visible under sunlight), so I was wondering what those could actually be caused by. They look like water stains that cannot be removed. I've heard that UV light can cause discoloration of aluminium bezels, so this would be the only ting that would make sense to me.
Maybe someone knows about what they actually are or if it simply is the metal itself that can't be produced spotless.
