Seiko vs Citizen
Anyone know what / if Citizen had a GS or King Seiko equivalent in the 70 and 80’s?

I don't know much about them but Citizen had some comparable Hi-Beat (28.8 and 36) lines like the Leopard and Chrono Master that were out at around the same time as the original King Seiko and Grand Seikos (early 60s-mid 70s). It's much more of a niche market though nowadays compared to vintage GS and even KS.
Here's my Citizen Leopard Super Beat 8.

That's a beauty Adam.
The finish work on the indices is very GS like and the crown at the 4 area is very unique. Thanks for the info. |

Thanks guys. I like it. The day and date both quick-change by pressing the winding crown.

I think the Chronomaster was the Grand Seiko equivalent, and still is.
I believe the current generation is suppose be the most accurate wristwatch available at +/-5 seconds per year. vs 10 seconds for the 9F in the Grand Seiko. |

Some of the limited and special edition GS 9F pieces are -/+ 5 secs a year (you can tell by the five-pointed star on the dial). The latest Citizen is supposed to be -/+ one second per year.

It's unique to Citizen as far as I know. My 6119 and Bellmatic also click the date forward but not the day

True Adam. I've tested them all here when I got home. Both 6119 have the crown just like the Citizen, and when pressed it changes the date, but the day is not quickset. The Bellmatics, on the other hand, have the upper button with double function. Press to change the date and pull to set the alarm. The alarm time is in the inner bezel and it's adjusted in the first position on the regular crown.

I just saw an ad for the Citizen's Campanola line. Another contender for the Grand Seiko equivalent.
I remember them being released, before Seiko reintroduced the GS to the USA. But they never seemed to have caught on. If I remember right they offer some hand lacquered dials, an offer complications with quartz movements. Last edited by MILGAUSS88; 28 September 2019 at 01:08 PM.. Reason: ... |

I don't. The ones I have seen are a little too Grand Seiko Grammar of Design lookalikes for me.
