Yep I would do that.

As you said its not "investment" grade piece (not that I believe in that rubbish) but if your going to get a piece your going to enjoy more - why not?

You'll run into many opinions here but I'm personally not an Arabic Numeral fan, so I'll pass on that alone.

Adding the beauty of your Zenith example, never in a million years.

Not a bad idea - I wouldn’t - I’m just a Zenith fan - but wouldn’t be a bad trade.

Obviously value may be slightly different but also thinking about an Explorer 1655 or 1680 red/white sub.

Now you’re talking. I’d do the explorer 1655 trade in a heart beat

If anything I would trade towards one of the 2 vintage watches you had listed (I’m biased towards 4/5 digit models).

Brent,

The 16520 SS models are special. Same goes for the PM models from 1988-2000.

I wouldn't make this trade even to upgrade into a PM Daytona. Now, if I were trading a 116520 & cash instead, it would be a yes.

Last Rolex to have an outside movement and first Daytona to have an automatic movement.

Only made for 11-12 years and not mass produced during that period like a DateJust or even Sub.

I assume the suits at Rolex really like the 16520 SS design as future Daytona models haven't changed the appearance all that much since 1988. 32 years of essentially the same design. Heck, they never even adopted the super case yet. E.g. throw a black ceramic bezel on a 16520 and it looks like a 116500LN from 2' away.

I saw your mentioned the 1680 red Sub comment. I love those and would trade a 16520 away for it. Only problem is you need to be so careful buying a 1680 red Sub. Some shady stuff out there with modified dials. Far sure, harder buying that Sub than a 16520 especially when you even factor in condition.
Need a seller you trust and some friends who know their stuff to help.

yes go for it. I've had a few Daytona's and the 116509 was a personal grail, but it had to be the Black Racing dial version..... I don't regret flipping to get it, it has the 2007 bracelet and its not as comfy and I don't care - it was a grail.

I have a white dial Zenith and couldn't see parting with it.
